Inventory of microRNA in equine tissues

A very exhaustive inventory of microRNA in the horse was made using high-throughput sequencing analysis of RNA (RNAseq). Four hundred ninety-nine microRNA identical to those in men, mice or other species were identified from blood, muscle, bone, cartilage, heart and liver tissues and 834 unknown microRNA were predicted including 20 coded by the mitochondrial genome. From these new genomic data, a customized equine microRNA microarray chip was developed in partnership with Agilent Technologies.

The study of the post-transcriptional regulation in muscle, cartilage and bone tissues. Use of a microarray for the identification of biomarkers.


Six hundred ninety-seven microRNA unknown to the miRBase were sequenced and predicted as mature microRNA candidates. Amongst them, 20 micoRNA candidates are encoded by the mitochondrial genome (mitomiRs). A customized 8x60K microRNA microarray was developed for the simultaneous analysis of 1886 miRNA from the v18 miRBase and 781 equine miRNA.


Application of this equine miRNA for transcriptome and microtransciptome projects.


These results were presented during two international meetings and a publication is currently being prepared.
